The Chueca neighbourhood is probably the most cosmopolitan of all Madrid. Known internationally for its Pride events generally held at the end of June, Chueca is more than a 'gay quarter'. The LGTBI community is to thank for the neighbourhood's transformation from the '80s onwards, but it is also a joyous, bohemian neighbourhood thanks to the integration of different cultures and nationalities, such that some refer to it as the SoHo of Madrid.
The best choice for discovering its narrow streets is to leave your car in one of the nearby car parks, and then cover Chueca on foot. This way you can enjoy the wide range of leisure options in the neighbourhood worry-free: get lost in its latest fashion stores, sample the latest gastronomical trends or grab a drink in some of Madrid's most striking bars.
