Matadero y Mercado Municipal de Ganados, known today as Matadero Madrid, was a set of forty-eight buildings dedicated to performing functions slaughterhouse and cattle market in the city of Madrid during the middle decades of the twentieth century. It was bounded by the Paseo de la Chopera, the Manzanares River and the promenade in Santa Maria de la Cabeza, in the district of Arganzuela of Madrid.
After the closure of the slaughterhouse in 1996, the facilities were unused until its transformation was decided in 2003 in a cultural space known as Matadero Madrid, which opened in 2007.
The main objective of Matadero Madrid is to promote the participation of all to create, reflect, learn and enjoy. The cultural space dedicated to temporary exhibitions facilities to design and theatrical activity.
